From Township Land to a City Incorporated in 1959
Before it was a city, Wyoming was farmland under Wyoming Township, organized in 1848 and named for Wyoming County, New York; residents didn't incorporate their own city until 1959, and did so specifically to keep Grand Rapids and Grandville from annexing the land. That vote sat in the middle of a construction boom already filling Godwin Heights and Rogers Heights.
