A Kitchen Project Done in Order

Most of what goes wrong on a remodel comes from skipping a step, not from the trades themselves.

1. Look and document

Note what’s actually there, take a few photos, and hold off on demo until the plan is set.

2. Evaluate the house and site

A workable plan lines up cabinet runs, appliance clearances, task lighting, range-hood venting, water and gas lines, panel capacity, and any wall openings before a single cabinet gets ordered.

3. Get the scope in writing

Prep, protection, materials, access, permits, testing, cleanup, and how change orders get priced should all be spelled out before work starts.

4. Compare more than price

Check credentials first, then weigh the reasoning behind each bid—not just which number is lowest.

5. Confirm the closeout

Testing, cleanup, paperwork, warranty terms, and any leftover maintenance items should all be confirmed before calling it finished.
